Acute blood purification equipment is primarily used for prolonged blood purification, such as in continuous blood purification (CBP) treatment. The method of warming blood when using acute blood purification equipment differs from that used in hemodialysis devices for dialysis patients. Consequently, this is likely to result in treatment in which the blood has not been sufficiently warmed due to the flow rate of the blood and purification solution (volume of dialysate and replenishing fluid). We carried out a performance assessment of warming devices used with acute blood purification equipment. The study revealed that increasing the volume of purification solution in each apparatus results in a lower blood temperature after using the warming device. Therefore, careful attention is required in regard to a lower temperature of circulating blood and changes in body temperature, which occurs when the volume of purification solution is increased in acute blood purification equipment, and the insufficiently heated purification solution is infused with the blood.
