Abstract
This study generated dialogues of older adults with dementia using ChatGPT and examined their usefulness and challenges. We developed scenarios in which older adults, with dementia ranging from mild cognitive impairment to moderate dementia, engaged in conversations with a granddaughter, as well as scenarios in which older adults without dementia interacted with a home-visit nurse providing either empathic or nonempathic responses. ChatGPT was used to generate these dialogues, which experts subsequently evaluated. The results suggested that ChatGPT reproduced response patterns that corresponded, to some extent, with the severity of dementia. ChatGPT also differentiated to some degree between empathic and nonempathic caregiver responses. These findings indicate potential applications in education and caregiver support; however, challenges remain for practical implementation, including the protection of personal information, the need for expert supervision, and ongoing ethical and legal considerations.
