As part of the studies on nutritional physiology on milk protein in the neonatal period, asystematic study was carried out on urinary excretion of peptide during the neonatal period. Very interesting results were obtained.
1) In a newborn baby one week after birth, it was confirmed that peptides and proteins originating from breast milk were excreted after being absorbed through the small intestine, even in breast milk fed infants.
2) In babies fed on cow milk diluted to 2/3, larger amounts of peptide and proteins were excreted than in breast milk fed infants. This fact naturally predisposes heavy loading on the liver and kidney, with the possibility of causing milk allergy, so that milk does not appear adequate for newborns.
3) Especially during 1-2 days after the beginning of feeding with milk, high molecular peptides were found to pass through the wall of the small intestine at an extremely high rate of absorption. It is quite inadequate to give the newborn heterogenous cow milk protein immediately after birth. Breast milk should be given at least during the neonatal period.
