A gaschromatographic determination and colorimetric measurements by Zimmermann's reaction for urinary 17-ketosteroids were compared. For the latter fraction by stepwise elution column chromatography on alumina and total urinary 17-ketosteroids by general method had been measured.
Gaschromatographic analyses were carried out on 3% XE-60 at programmed temperature 180-210°.
In the colorimetric methods the value of total urinary 17-ketosteroids was indefinite, and the value of dehydro-epiandrosterone fraction by column chromatography was higher and that for 11-oxy-17-ketosteroids was lower.
11-deoxy-17-ketosteroids, 11-keto-17-ketosteroids, and 11-hydroxy-17-ketosteroids have a characteristic absorption at 520mμ, and correction is necessary when dehydroepiandrosterone is used as standard.
