Low values for glutamic oxalacetic transaminase (GOT) were observed in the serum of uremic patients. After in vitro dialysis of the serum or with addition of pyridoxal phosphate to the assay medium, however, serum GOT activity of the patients was increased and remarkable increased activity was observed after in-vitro dialysis and with addition of pyridoxal phosphate to assay medium.
These findings suggested not only that the dializable inhibitors of GOT appeared in uremic serum but also that conversion of apoenzymes to holoenzyms was disturbed in uremic serum on account of deoiciency of pyridoxal phosphate due to long term hemodialysis.
