Abstract

In response to the demand for reliable maintenance and management of the vast aging social infrastructure, the shortage of engineers due to the decrease in the working-age population has become a major social problem. Therefore it is necessary to enhance the productivity of road inspection and maintenance works by using Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Internet of Things(IoT)and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

In this paper, we describe the overview and utilization examples of introduced a full high-definition camera inspection system in the Metropolitan Expressway since 2017 in order to solve the problem of the conventional method that relied on manual work in the road patrol inspection. In addition, we are developing AI technology to detect road surface damage automatically based on full high-definition images in order to aim for further advancement and efficiency of road patrol inspections, and also we describe the trials and future prospects of these technologies.
