Introduction and utilization of Mobile Mapping System in railway maintenance

Abstract

 JR West has been examining the application of MMS (Mobile Mapping System) technology to inspection of railway equipment as part of its efforts to improve productivity and work style reformation by using ICT technology. After two years of operation, we have achieved certain results in the digitalization of railway inspection and surveys. Furthermore, it has become widely used in infrastructure development in the railway field, and is also used in various internal systems. This article introduces examples of on-site utilization initiatives that are being continued on a trial basis in various railway systems.
