Since fiscal year 2001, technical standards for road bridges in Japan have shifted toward performance-based specifications. This requires planning and measures to ensure performance not only for new bridges but also during repairs of existing bridges. While performance-focused repair planning is gaining traction, it primarily involves evaluating the performance of individual components. Few cases exist where plans are developed based on evaluations that also consider how damage progression might cause failure at the structural unit level.
Therefore, this paper introduces a case study where a repair plan was formulated for an older PCT girder bridge. This involved assessing the bridge's condition and evaluating its performance, including at the structural unit level. It also presents a case study where, for members where performance evaluation was difficult, a repair plan was devised. This plan included measures to prevent performance degradation beyond the current state. Furthermore, anticipating the bridge's condition if performance were to degrade, the plan incorporated routine inspections designed to detect such degradation.
