Abstract

Many steel flap gates constructed during the period of rapid economic growth have deteriorated due to aging. The necessity for the renewal of these steel flap gates is evaluated based on the results of periodic inspections and deterioration assessments. During such inspections and diagnostics, the operability of steel flap gates during their opening and closing for water level control is also examined, since this operability is closely related to structural deterioration of steel flap gates. Consequently, the need for anomaly detection during gate movement has become increasingly important. In this study, a simple first stage screening method for detecting anomaly during the operation of steel flap gate was proposed by applying optical flow analysis. The indoor and field experimental verification was conducted to confirm the usefulness of the proposed method. The results showed that by using video footage of the hydraulic cylinder that moves the gate, it is possible to detect normal and abnormal movements that occur during the operation of steel frap gate.
