In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for pedestrian space development that ensures safe and comfortable mobility for diverse users, placing people at the center of urban design. At the same time, establishing objective and efficient maintenance methods using information technologies has become a pressing challenge. This study aimed to establish an efficient screening procedure for detecting sidewalk surface irregularities by extending the evaluation length of surfaces when applying a Local Difference Filter (LDF), a type of spatial convolution filter, to three-dimensional point cloud data of sidewalk surfaces acquired with a terrestrial laser scanner (TLS). The results revealed that applying the filter to both 10-meter sections and longer sections yielded comparable performance in detecting irregularities on the surfaces. The outcomes of this study are expected to contribute to the streamlining and labor-saving of sidewalk surface condition inspections in practical applications.
