When the theory of orthotropic plate is applied to the analysis of beam bridge, the determination of “equivalent” flexural and twisting stiffness is firstly important. In this paper the theoretical values of equivalent stiffness are compared with experimental values to a large number of cast iron or steel models of beam bridge.
The summarize of results of study is as follows:
(1) Values of νy are small in comparison with the values of isotropic plate and values of νx are equal generally to isotropic plate.
(2) Eq. (5) is proper to determine the values of Dy when the height of beam is small and the values of A is proper when the height of beam is large.
(3) Generally νxDy is not equal to νyDx.
(4) Eq. (6) is proper to determine the values of 2C.
(5) The values of κ are 1.0-1.3.
These results will be used efficiently to the analysis of RC or PC beam bridge by the theory of orthopropic plate.
