There is a tendency that type of earth retaining wall for a given foundation is chosen mainly on the basis of past experiences or actual performances. Therefore, it is not always the case that a rational type of earth retaining wall is given for a particular foundation.
This paper discusses applicability of Expert System in selection of optimum type of earth retaining wall for a given foundation.
