Abstract
A walking guidance system with FM wave information was developed for the elderly and the visually impaired. This system was composed of a low power transmitter and a portable radio. In order to evaluate this walking guidance system, experiments with the elderly and the visually impaired were conducted for about 550m from station to City Hall in Toyota. Subjects were fitted with an electrocardiograph or an electroencephalograph to measure physiological indices during the experiment. Moreover, their behavior of walking was recorded by a digital camcorder. A questionnaire about their property and daily life was also conducted. As a result, it was made clear that the walking guidance system has an effectiveness of providing necessary information for the elderly and the visually impaired.
