Stated Preference surveys are frequently adopted for the analysis of the impact of transport policies on travel demand However, evidence suggests that preferences derived from SP surveys are contingent on context. In this study we suggest that stated intention, i. e. a prediction of self-behavior in future in SP surveys, can be applied to travel demand analysis based on attitude theory. The theory explains why intention sometimes deviates from actual behavior. In an empirical demonstration using panel data obtained from commuters (n=903) before and after the opening of a new subway line, support is obtained for several conjectures about why behavioral intentions are, or are not, implemented.

A walking guidance system with FM wave information was developed for the elderly and the visually impaired. This system was composed of a low power transmitter and a portable radio. In order to evaluate this walking guidance system, experiments with the elderly and the visually impaired were conducted for about 550m from station to City Hall in Toyota. Subjects were fitted with an electrocardiograph or an electroencephalograph to measure physiological indices during the experiment. Moreover, their behavior of walking was recorded by a digital camcorder. A questionnaire about their property and daily life was also conducted. As a result, it was made clear that the walking guidance system has an effectiveness of providing necessary information for the elderly and the visually impaired.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the statistical characteristics of the land price rank-size distribution for theoretical development of land price model or hedonic price function. This research clarified theoretically that the rank-size distribution of land prices, which conformed the lognormal distribution, was the exponential distribution in approximation. From theoretical and statistical verifications, it was clarified that the changes in the slope of the rank-size distribution showed the bubbly changes in land prices, which were influenced by expectations factors. We proposed the directivity of land price model development with using the statistical characteristic of the land price distribution, which was verified by this research.

There exist thick market externalities in taxi spot markets, that larger market will make service transactions more efficient. When heterogeneous customers visit a market, there also arises mismatching externality that taxicabs could be mismatched with the types of customers not to be preferred. If spot markets are differentiated based upon efficient matching pairs of taxicabs and customers, information asymmetry between customers and taxies could be partly resolved, eventually increasing matching efficiency between taxicabs and customers. In this paper, equilibrium models of spot markets are presented incorporating both thick market economies and mismatching diseconomies. The impacts of fare regulation of taxicabs and market differentiation policies upon social welfare are also investigated by simple numerical examples.

The paper proposes a model to describe the technical effectiveness of rescue activities in case of large-scale earthquakes in order to suggest the efficient equipment for quicker response. The model employs two factors which represent the speed of searching victims captured in the destroyed structures and the accuracy of detecting them. The model was applied to the data of relieved victims of the Hanshin Great Earthquake. And provided a reasonable reproduction of the data. Parametric studies concerning to the two factors suggested that increasing the accuracy of detection may be more effective than increasing the speed of search if the two are as given for the Hanshin earthquake.

This paper proposes the new type of quantitative method for park landscape evaluation with using visual sensational information of both color and compositional arrangements. As for the analysis of color arrangement, degree of redundancy was defined and calculated by the concept of entropy. With regard to the compositional arrangement, complexity of composition was calculated by means of the Fractal analysis.
The results showed that the color arrangement was better coordinated at the others nucleus parks rather than at the block parks. Moreover, the calculated Fractal dimensions of compositional arrangement of the nucleus parks showed around 1.5 that is corresponding to that of several beautiful paintings of Impressionists.
