Abstract
Elastic wave propagating through a layer on a rigid base was examined by ray theory which is quite available to Love wave phenomena. In this paper, Rayleigh wave phenomena were examined by the same approach. Displacement time histories due to Rayleigh wave propagation were measured clearly in certain exciting frequency band. For elastic layer of which Poisson's ratio is 0.5, ray theoretical approach ascertained successfully such phenomena and was verified by elastic theory.
