Abstract
To evaluate the performance of geotechnical structures, it is important to investigate external factors including earthquake or heavy rainfall. This paper describes an effective statistical approach to compute a probabilistic precipitation using the latest meteorological data. To eliminate the effect of accumulated meteolorogical data on the current probabilistic precipitation, the probabilistic precipitation was calculated with the selected meteolorogical data satisfied with the allowable goodness of fit of the probability distribution. The effect of the goodness of fit was discussed to calculate the probabilistic precipitation with defferent allowable goodness of fit. Finally, the probabilistic precipitation maps per day and hour of Japan with a return period of 100 years were presented in this paper.
