Abstract
The robust bridge system for highways and/ or roads is a key component to the well-being of people as well as the economic development of Japan. In recent years, however, we have been subjected to the effects of an aging and deteriorating the bridge system combining with the lack of funding for its maintenance. Therefore, the development of risk-based maintenance methodology is one of urgent issues. In this paper author presents UK's risk-based methodologies for prioritizing bridge maintenance works, which provide support for developing the Japanese specific method in this field.
