Abstract
  Focusing on household behavior of vehicle holding duration and annual traveling distance, this study proposed a Copula-based Multivariate Survival model in order to capture the interdependence between these two behaviors. The proposed model was applied for the household vehicle holding data surveied in Chugoku region, Japan in 2006. The estimated model showed the effectiveness in terms of model performance and applicability, comparing with the conventional independent modeling approach. Comparative analyses of the different types of copulas supported the use of Clayton copula. The estimated copula parameter indicated the significant negative correlation between vehicle holding and vehicle use.
