Abstract

This paper describes the design, structure, assembling process, and fabrication cost of a triangular solar still (TrSS). The TrSS consists of a bamboo frame, a triangular cover, and a rectangular trough, and is designed for small village families in remote and coastal areas in southern Bangladesh. Field experiments using three different size TrSSs were conducted at the University of Fukui, Japan in the summer of 2017 and 2018. The purpose is to calculate the amount of water production at the target site in Bangladesh from these experimental results. The calculated daily production of the TrSS with 1.0 m and 1.6 m in length for January to April was 0.558 kg/day and 0.834 kg/day, respectively. The estimated production cost for 1.5 L per person per day for 10 years is 1.0 BDT/L, which is almost equal to standard water cost (1.0 BDT/L) in this area. It is expected that the proposed TrSS may be accepted in the target site.
