This study identified the factors affecting the housing satisfaction by conducting a questionnaire survey on household sectors. Results of a covariance structure analysis for all the respondents showed that the factor affecting housing satisfaction the most is the evaluation of the living environment of the housing. The evaluation of the private benefit by energy performance of housing and the economic efficiency were also significant. Results of the multi-group covariance structure analysis confirmed that households in rental apartments placed more importance on economic efficiency than did owner-occupied detached households. Moreover, the households with high energy conservation awareness valued the social contribution by energy performance of housing rather than its private benefit. The findings of this study implied that selecting and providing appropriate information according to the energy conservation awareness of residents would promote the energy efficient home. A simple oral survey may be sufficient to confirm the energy conservation awareness of households that purchase or rent a house.
