FAST REHABILITATION OF AIRPORT TAXIWAYS WITH RC PRECAST SLAB PAVEMENTS

Abstract

Some distress like rutting was often observed on airport taxiways where asphalt pavements have been generally applied due to an increase of air transportation. To deal with this issue, reinforced concrete (RC) precast slab pavement using high strength concrete with cotter joint system was studied by laboratory tests and field experiments. In the tests, the design method of RC precast slab was established and the suitable structure of cotter joint device was determined. As a result, the RC precast slab pavement was successfully applied to taxiways at Fukuoka Airport. Both the structural soundness and durability of RC precast slab pavement were verified through successive surveys.
