Abstract
This paper discusses the phenomenological events of the ground movement referring to shield-machine operation data to investigate the mechanism of the ground deformation due to the construction sequence of the tunnel. (1) There seems to be an important cause of ground movement which has been hardly paid attention to thus far. (2) The behavior of the ground movement related with the above cause can be understood by observing the variations of the earth pressure in chamber, the back filling condition and the machine position. (3) The measurement of the ground motion and the collection of the machine operation record are quite effective to study the interaction between the ground and the shield machine.
