Abstract
It is important to understand the amount of sediment flowing a sediment bypass tunnel used for the purpose of reducing the sedimentation of a dam reservoir. A method for estimating the amount of gravel flowing in a high-speed flow is required. Therefore, in this study, we devised a method to estimate grain size classified gravel discharge rate using plate type sensor by flume experiment reproducing high speed flow of about 15 m/s and verified by experimental data. The estimation method is characterized by using both acoustic sensor and vibration sensor. As a result of verification, the total amount of gravel flow down was calculated with an error of 103% at maximum and 26% on average. In addition, although there were some challenges, relatively good discrimination of the grain size classification was achieved.
