Abstract
Recently, bike sharing systems have been launched in many cities around the world. Even in Japan, there has been an increasing tendency to introduce new systems. When introducing a bike sharing system, it is important to consider the relationship between it and existing public transport in order to arrange for measures such as scale and fare. In Japan, however, there is little research about appropriate evaluation of the effect of bike sharing systems.
In this study, we assume bike sharing systems in Kyoto by the combination of scale and fare. For that, we simulate a situation at the time of introduction of bike sharing systems using the Urban Traffic Simulation model, which can handle motor traffic and public transport, including bike sharing systems. Then we calculate the bike sharing system revenue, the user benefit and the social benefit and evaluate the effect of bike sharing systems.
