Abstract
Road network has to be designed to cooperate with the hierarchy of the road. However, there seems to exist mismatch between actual road usage and hierarchy of the road. In this situation, it is hard to show projected performance. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of having hierarchy in the road network. This is evaluated by comparing the performance of three types of road network. Traffic assignment is conducted in the all-or-nothing technique by utilizing the preset parameter of the road capacity, traffic volume, travel speed of the vehicle and so on. Measure of effectiveness is set as the surpassed traffic flow against the traffic capacity. Characteristics of road network feature that shows better effect to the traffic flow are clarified by evaluating the effect of having hierarchy in the road network for various types of network.
