Abstract

In this paper, effect of the guide beam is validated by the result of experiment with driving simulator. In the experiment, two kinds of the guide beam such as (7m bright) and (15m dark) are used to compare the case without having the guide beam. It is clearly shown that ease of driving for following drivers and perception of distance between vehicles are improved certainly by the result of questionnaire. Moreover, it is found that frustration and feelings of overtake are suppressed. In the situation of the approach to the maintenance vehicle, number of cases with higher deceleration is decreased by the guide beam from the result of driving behavior analysis. Additionally, in the situation when maintenance vehicle changes its speed, reaction time to accelerate/decelerate their speed is shorten by the guide beam. Furthermore, in the following situation, following drivers keep safe condition. Summarizing these result, it is clearly shown that the guide beam has high advantage to make safer traffic conditions.
