Abstract

The increase in the number of "regional experience seekers" has been attracting attention in recent years as a revitalization measure in rural areas. In particular, the growing number of such people could help to resolve the shortage of community leaders. The promotion of behavioral change among uninvolved people is highly expected to solve this problem. In this study, we clarified the factors that lead to the step-up to "regional experience seekers" focusing on the uninvolved people in Japan. Then, we categorized the candidates for "visiting regional experience seekers" who were expected to become the leaders of the community among the regional experience seekers, into 11 types of personalities. After that, we clarified the elements to improve to get them involved with the community according to each type of personality. Results indicated the following: 1) Younger people and people with hobbies and interests are more likely to step up to the next level. 2) There are trends in the elements of improvement demanded by each person type, such as public servants and time availability, and couples and the understanding of their partner. 3) Regardless of the person type, people feel that financial aspects such as travel and accommodation costs are a burden.
