Aki fishing port, located on the east side of Kochi Prefecture, is known to produce high wave splash ~35 m at the offshore breakwater during typhoon storms. We investigated the mechanism of the high wave splash by conducting 2DH wave deformation analysis and 1DV numerical computation by using a VOF model. We conjectured that the nearshore topography close to the shore must be very steep since the beach sediments there are coarse, in a range of 1-10 mm. The 1DV numerical analysis demonstrated the height of the wave splash is highly sensitive to the bottom slope in front of the breakwater and the splash height can reach ~22 m in case the bottom slope was assumed to be 1/10. The use of accurate bathymetry in front of the structure is found to be an essential key to the prediction of the high wave splash.
