Abstract

The 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami caused damage to small oil tanks installed in oil depots and fishing ports that drifted and moved. These oil tanks were not designed against tsunamis, and immediate development of tsunami countermeasures is needed.

The authors proposed a tsunami countermeasure method for small oil tanks using CFRP. In previous reports, the authors have verified the effectiveness of this method by FEM analysis. In this paper, tsunami experiment was conducted in a tsunami test channel to confirm the effectiveness of the two proposed tsunami countermeasure methods against tsunami and inundation damage. The dynamic wave pressures obtained from the experiments are compared with the static wave pressures obtained from the FEM analysis to confirm the validity of the FEM analysis.
