Abstract

 80% of Hanshin Expressway consists of viaducts, and Wangan Route has lots of steel deck structures. For the base layer of pavement on a steel deck, a guss asphalt mixture has been conventionally used because it has high followability of steel deck deflection, and well workability by pouring to fill into uneven parts on the deck. In recent years, road pavement companies have developed new guss asphalts that are more durable and lower odor than conventional guss asphalt mixtures, and put them into practical use. This paper reports new regulations for the guss asphalts from its production to construction, which is organized by considering required standard values based on the results of performance tests, the results of pilot construction using new guss asphalt under the regulations, and the calculated life-cycle cost based on its performance.
