Abstract

Although the degree of compaction is controlled by the core density, etc. for the asphalt pavement surface layer, it is not for finding local places with poor compaction over a wide area and aspects. Through surface discontinuities, e.g. cracks, construction joints, structure boundaries, deterioration factors such as water and oxygen enter the pavement structure along these discontinuous lines. For surface layer discontinuities, joint adhesiveness is ensured during paving work, and injection materials such as crack seals are applied as maintenance, however, it is difficult to confirm actually the watertightness. This paper states the results on the evaluation of air void content and adhesiveness applying a double-chamber-type vacuum permeability tester for asphalt pavement, referring to the surface layer permeability test used for concrete structures.
