Abstract

In snowy-cold region such as Hokkaido, ice road surface occurs during winter season. It causes slip and travel speed deceleration, and increases traffic accidents. In winter road management, anti-freeze agents are applied to prevent from occurring ice road surface and more effective application method is desirable. The present study, coefficient of friction (μ) was converted from Halliday Friction Number (HFN) measured by Continuous Friction Tester (CFT), and compared the application effect between some application methods. In the range of tests which conducted in the present study, the results are as follows. In the case of drainage pavement section, when the coefficient of friction (μ) was decreased significantly on no application, the result indicated application by salt mater might be more effective than that by wet salt. While in the case of dense graded asphalt pavement section, when the similar situation, the result did application by solid preparations was the most effective under some application methods.
