Abstract

This study investigated plant-based recycled asphalt mixture without fossil fuels. One of the background of this study is the desire to introduce alternative materials to petroleum asphalt due to the decline in oil demand in recent years. Another background is a need to make effective use of asphalt pavement waste materials from the perspective of creating a recycling-priented society. As a result, it was confirmed that the chemical composition and the dynamic viscoelasticity of the old asphalt coated on recycled aggregate was recovered from the deteriorated state by combining with plant-based asphalt. And it was clarified that the resistance to rutting and fatigue cracking of plant-based recycled asphalt mixture shows equivalent performance as general asphalt mixture. In addition, the constructability of this asphalt mixture was shown to be good by trial construction. Therefore, it was found that plant-based recycled asphalt mixture can be used as hot mixture for paving.
