Abstract
Since 1970, the Port and Airport Research Institute (PARI) has been cooperating with the Ports and Harbours Bureau, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, and its associated agencies, on the Nationwide Ocean Wave information network for Port and HArbours (NOWPHAS). This study examined a long-term variability of wave characteristics, such as mean and maximum significant wave, calmness and wave power, around the Japanese coasts using observed wave data. Seasonal and annual average of significant wave period is increasing at almost points around the Japanese coast. The relation between the variation of significant waves and indexes was examined. The relation of correlation between a wave and sea water temperature is the highest.
