Abstract

High-efficient global supply chain represented by just-in-time system can be stagnated by transport disruption. World shipping operations concentrated at international straits and canals, choke points. This paper estimated and analyzed passing cargo’s volumes and values. As a result, it was revealed that the shares of passing cargoes among the world maritime trade has increased and that the total value of passing cargoes of Malacca Strait exceeds US$ 3 trillion, which accounts for 18% of world trade. Based on the simple rough estimation limited in container bypass transport, the impact of the blockade of Suez Canal will be larger than that of Malacca Strait due to the longer distance of the detour route.
