Abstract

The Northwest Pacific Ocean Long-term Reanalysis Dataset FORA-WNP30 was used to estimate the seawater expansion due to changes in seawater temperature in the region up to a depth of 1500 m between 1992 and 2012, and to analyze the contribution of each layer and latitude region to the sea level change. The sea level rise due to seawater expansion during the period was about 2.0 mm/year. The estimated interannual variation of sea level due to seawater expansion was similar to the long-term sea level variation published by the Japan Meteorological Agency. The contribution of seawater expansion due to temperature rise to the observed sea level change is considered to be significant.
