In recent years, the effect of water on deterioration of asphalt pavement has been revealed by several noteworthy researches conducted at airports and expressways and national roads in Japan. To further extend the service life of asphalt pavements, it is important to correctly understand the process of deterioration in consequence of the existance of water. Thus, reproduction of the damage observed in actual pavements as well as evaluation method to significantly compare and distinguish asphalt mixtures with different levels of moisture-resistance properties are considered mandetory. In this research, based on the mechanism revealed in previous studies behind stripping of asphalt mixture, a new method, which is a fusion of several current domestic and overseas methods, is proposed to evaluate moisture resistance of polymer modified asphalt mixture.
