Abstract

Longitudinal and transverses cracks were found on pre stressed concrete pavement (here by PCP) in a road tunnel. According to inspection on site, the pc bars and strands which were installed in PCP were ruptured near large cracks and some cavities between PCP and subbase were confirmed around largely defected sections.

So, the analytical study using by 3 dimensional non liner finite element analysis were carried out to clarify which factor give the worse effective to deflections. The size of cavity gave the worse influence to deflections rather than loss of pre stress before the occurrence of the flexural cracking from this analysis. And the load carrying behavior was changed to that of a beam type, when cavities at the bottom side occurred. Furthermore, the negative bending moment appeared on surface of PCP.
