Abstract

Penstock support types are divided into saddle support and ring support types. These types must be determined by considering importance, safety, and economics. The design of the penstock on the saddle support is affected by the circumferential bending moment that is maximized when the water is filled. The moment value can be determined based on the values defined in “Technical Standards for Gates and Penstocks”. However, it may be necessary to confirm the safety of this part using numerical analysis technology. In this paper, parametric FEM analysis is performed under actual conditions, the numerical values of the design evaluation formula are reviewed, and a method to improve accuracy is proposed.
