Innovation of infrastructure maintenance through artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) is attracting wide interest from both practitioners and researchers. Enhancement of productivity is the key to reduce current and future burden of infrastructure maintenance. Labor intensive tasks, such as inspection or repair at field, and planning or data management at office, are expected to be rationalized by AI. However, current application of AI is limited and studied in ad-hoc manner in infrastructure maintenance. In this paper, productivity enhancement by AI application to infrastructure maintenance management cycle is explored holistically through case studies, and effective research and development strategy is presented.
