Abstract

There are many damages not only distributing pipes but also service pipes and branch saddles during an earthquake. Although there is a seismic design method for water distributing pipes, there is no seismic design method for service pipes and branch saddles. According to recent earthquake survey reports about water supply pipeline, it was pointed out that importance of earthquake resistance of service pipes to maintain the water supply network. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the seismic performance of service pipes which made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) .We performed the soil box test to figure out about influence of slippage between distributing pipes and soil to evaluate the earthquake resistance of service pipes and branch saddles. In the result, it was confirmed that HDPE pipes and revolving branch saddles had earthquake resistance during severe earthquake because of its structure following the slippage of distributing pipes.
