Abstract
It is important to grasp the damaged areas and situations caused by large-scale natural disaster as soon as possible for the quick response in order to help people in the area. In this regard, satellite remote sensing which can observe wide area at once is effective method, especially, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) which can observe at night time and rainy day is more effective to grasp the situations of the damage. Generally, the locations are determined by subtracting the SAR image that was observed before the disaster, “before-event-image”, from that observed after the disaster, “after-event-image”.
In this study, however, we tried to detect the locations of slope failure areas by using only “after-event-image” of ALOS-2/PALSAR-2. We analyzed twenty-eight areas where slope failures occurred due to heavy rain in Hiroshima prefecture, and found that it is possible to detect the slope failures by using only “after-event-image” of SAR.
