Abstract

It is important to address the repeated repairs against chloride attack caused by the leakage including chloride ion in the maintenance of underground structures. Therefore, preventive maintenance is one strategy for labor-saving. For that purpose, it is necessary to predict the deteriorated condition before the leaking. In this paper, we propose a deterioration prediction method based on brine flow in the ground for underground structures near the tidal river. First, a prediction method for brine penetration is devised by considering the heterogeneity of the ground. Next, a three-dimensional reaction-diffusion analysis method is presented by considering the seasonal fluctuations of leakage. Finally, by integrating these separate analysis methods, we have developed a novel method for predicting deterioration of underground structures based on brine flow in the ground. The capability of the proposed methods is demonstrated by a representative numerical example.
