Abstract

We have developed and standardized the new bearing support of laminated steel plates as an alternative to the morning glory shaped bearing support of cast steel which have been widely used for steel columns to build underground spaces in subway stations for a long term. The new bearing support is constructed by laminated round steel plates which have different diameters corresponding to the thickness of steel plate to reproduce sectional shape of the morning glory shaped bearing support. This paper shows the table of standardized dimensions of the bearing support of laminated steel plates for each design type calculated by design formula and the results of full-scale tests using typical design type of column and FEM analysis conducted to confirm the validity of design formula. This paper also shows the possibility of further rationalization by the application of new calculation method for supporting reaction force based on effective diameter corresponding to the height of bearing support.
