Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the appraisal of the parents of the nursing care their children received while undergoing cardiac surgery. We investigated the degree of satisfaction for the operation's result, synthetic satisfaction of parents for nursing care during their child's surgery, and the degree of expectation and satisfaction of 20 care items. Data were collected from 58 parents by a questionnaire survey, and analyzed by Spearman's rank correlation and a diagram in order to appraise nursing care. The diagram is formed by finding the coordinates. In that arrangement, the ordinate designates the degree of satisfaction, and the abscissas designate the degree of expectation for 20 care items. The degree of synthetic satisfaction of parents for nursing care (51.8%) was lower than satisfaction for the operation's result (89.7%). Synthetic satisfaction of parents for nursing care during their child's surgery was correlated with encouragement by the hospital staff that their child's surgery would be completed successfully in 20 care items (r=.50, p=.00). The diagram indicated a necessity to offer parents timely information, especially when the finish time of their child's surgery had been delayed.
