A study was conducted to evaluate reliability of the transverse tensile properties of unidirec-tional CFRP laminates. Four kinds of CFRP were tested in order to examine the factors of variability on mechanical properties and to obtain the information for reliability improve-ment. Temperature dependence of the strength was investigated by means of testing at three different temperatures. Statistical distributions of the respective mechanical properties were obtained from the tensile tests with large sample size. As a conclusion, toughening of the matrix resin resulted in an increase of the strength and considerable decrease of the scatter of the transverse tensile properties of unidirectional CFRP laminates.
