The anonymity of samples is an important matter for carrying out pharmacogenomic (PGx) research. Regarding a concrete methodology, there have been reports on large-scale research institutions such as universities, however, there have been no such reports at medium-or small-scale research institutions. At the Sakakibara Heart Institute, we prepared a standard operating procedure to render the samples for PGx research anonymous. We proposed a smooth method which can be carried out at small-and medium-scale institutions as a standard operating procedure for the anonymization of samples used in genetic research. This method is in accordance with ethics guidelines. We believe that this procedure can facilitate development of PGx research at medium-or small-scale clinical research institutions in Japan.
