The corneal endothelia of 9 male beagles (age: 8∼9 months) were examined with a contact-type specular microscope under general anesthesia. The specular microscopy showed uniform-sized, hexagonal endothelia arranged regularly on the innermost layer of the cornea. Concerning the cell density (cells/mm2), no statistically significant difference was observed between the left and right eyes. The fluorescein staining during the corneal or slit-lamp examination of the anterior portion made it clear that there were no wounds on the surface of the cornea and no inflammation in the anterior chamber in any dog.
