The Legal System Working Group of the Japan Society for Digital Archive published a draft guideline for portrait rights in September 2019. Using photographs from the Niigata University Regional Image Archive Research Center's "Niigata Regional Image Archive Database", experiments were conducted in which students at Niigata University were asked to grade photographs based on the guideline and give comments. This report describes the implications for the guidelines that were obtained from the students' comments. Then, using the guidelines as a measure of the social meanings and values that people assign to images, it will be shown that the transformation of attitudes in the post-digital youth societies has produced portrait rights themselves.
