The author will introduce the cases of Documents of Kyoto Prefectural Government and Toji Hyakugo Monjo, in which the author was directly involved, and describe the issues involved in the creation of digital data and digital archives of historical materials, especially paper materials. For Documents of Kyoto Prefectural Government, digital data was created as part of the repair project, and for the oji Hyakugo Monjo, digital data and digital archives were created by utilizing the accumulated data. In addition, I will introduce the current trends in the cultural property restoration discussed in the discussions on disaster materials rescue, museums, cultural property protection, and historiography, and argue that digital archives have much to learn from them.
